ARTISAN ROOTS

Our fine custom furniture, architectural millwork, and interior elements are built with integrity and shaped by human hands at our studio.

Inspired by traditional woodworking methods and precision craftsmanship, we create details for homes, restaurantshotels, commercial spaces, and educational environments that reflect our clients' vision and our distinctive aesthetic of pared-down simplicity.

The work of Artisan Millshop is routinely specified by international designers and architects and has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects. We've earned awards including the Associated Builders & Contractors 2012 Award of Excellence, and been humbled to see our projects featured in publications including Conde Nast's TravelerUS WeeklyNew Orleans Magazine, and The Times Picayune. Our work has also been included on New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny Home Tour.  Artisan Millshop's in-place installation on an award-winning project with Landis Construction and Trapolin-Peer Architects is featured on the cover of Louisiana Landmarks Society's Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation.  We are very excited to have participated in building interior elements in tandem with The Johnson Studio in Atlanta, GA for The Hyatt Regency - Polaris Coupe Club which was nominated for the 2015 design et al International Hotel and Property Awards under Global Restaurant within a Hotel category.

At the end of the day, we're doing what we love. And our mission — building with the mind and from the heart — is at the core of everything we do.

BEHIND THE BRAND

More than a name or logo, the Artisan Millshop brand is the experience people have with our artisans, our products, and our processes.

On every job, our focus centers on enduring relationships, outstanding service, and unrivaled quality — enabling us to sustain our art without shortcuts or compromise.

Signifying accuracy and attention to detail, our logo represents a woodworker's square, the pitch of a roof, a treetop, and a precisely cut joint or window jamb.

It speaks quietly to our exacting standards and commitment to integrity, while reflecting the unbreakable bond between art and craft.

We're proud of our brand and grateful for our marketing partners at thINK and Rappenship.

QUALITY STANDARDS

At Artisan Millshop, we're grounded in a philosophy of character and craft.

We adhere to Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards and regulations and believe that conservation and social responsibility begin on the studio floor. We keep our inventories intentionally lean, and work to minimize waste in our processes and materials. Door-to-door delivery of nearly everything leaving the shop limits our carbon footprint, while ensuring the integrity of our products from workbench to installation.

We use FSC-certified lumber whenever possible, and our suppliers provide us with sustainably harvested hardwoods representing the top tier of available materials. All our pieces are built using traditional joinery and time-honored methods, promising generations of use while consuming fewer resources and avoiding the landfill fate of their mass-produced counterparts.

Recycling and Repurposing

In a woodshop, waste is inevitable. To minimize its effect on our environment, we repurpose however we can:

Cutoffs and wood scraps are given to local artists for their pursuits, or donated to those in need.

Wood chips go to the community garden next door, making terrific mulch and compost.

Care

Our architectural millwork and custom pieces are built to withstand everyday use for generations. Remember, though, that wood is a natural substance. Finished projects will undergo changes in moisture content and dimension depending on the humidity and temperature of the surrounding air. Similarly, a board's knots, grain, color, and texture should not be considered flaws, but instead as the "fingerprints" which enhance its beauty and uniqueness.

Warranty

Everything leaving Artisan Millshop is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship. Proper installation and care of your products will ensure a lifetime of functional use. We guarantee proper installation of our products when performed in full by our skilled team and according to contract specifications. We cannot be responsible for installation difficulties or resulting damage to our products when performed independently of Artisan Millshop.

In an effort to facilitate proper installation by independent contractors, Artisan Millshop provides detailed written installation instructions upon request.
